The Oregon Media Arts Fellowship, established to recognize and support the work of Oregon film and video makers, announced its 2010 awards November 5 at the 37th Northwest Film & Video Festival to Portland filmmakers Matt McCormick, Nick Peterson and Elijah Hasan. Filmmakers receive cash fellowships administered by the Northwest Film Center.

Oregon producers who produce non-broadcast material – for any medium including the internet – are invited to take a short, confidential on-line survey about their experience.

The survey was created by a group of actors from different regions of the country as an effort to better understand trends in the non-broadcast realm.  Since non-broadcast production has no single organization to represent it (unlike the TV, movie and advertising industries), a survey seemed like a good approach. Whether it’s the thriving independent music scene, live theater, or a combination of multiple creative disciplines, there is no doubt Oregon is a thriving base of creative expression.   According to the Oregon Arts Commission over 60,000 jobs in Oregon are directly related to the creative economy.  That may not sound like a lot of jobs but when you figure that Oregon has about 1/10 of the population of California, it’s a large section of the total workforce in Oregon.  So when a film or television project comes to Oregon, there is a rich and diverse depth of talent to pull from.
