“Tell Your Story” Grant – A Residency Opportunity For Portlanders – Now Accepting Applications

 

This single $10,000 grant will be awarded to the City of Portland BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Person of Color – including but not limited to Latinx, Asian American, and Pacific Islanders) creators or creative teams for a virtual-residency in order to develop, explore and/or shoot story(ies) applicants want to tell in any film format they choose.

The connections, insights, experience, access to physical office space (at the Oregon Film Office, if needed), and consultations with strategic supporting and contributing sponsors, will be made directly available to each of the winning creators for a period of six months.

New Portland-Set Narrative Podcast Series

The limited-run narrative podcast series Short of Breath is a small-scale socioeconomic thriller focusing on problems relevant to contemporary working-class American life. While rooted in real human interactions, the series has the tenor, structure, and tempo of a melodrama and thriller.

A New Sign For The Oregon Film Trail At Silver Falls State Park!

The Oregon Film Trail sign was installed last week at Silver Falls State Park, and it celebrates the starring role the park played as a location in Twilight among other films.   This is the 15th sign on the Oregon Film Trail, it was installed at the Howard Creek Trailhead parking lot near the campground within the Park.

ShadowMachine’s #OregonMade Animated Musical “Pinocchio” Announces Cast

Shadow Machine announced this week its cast choices for the animated musical feature, “Pinocchio“.  Principal photography on “Pinocchio” began last autumn at ShadowMachine’s Portland studio and production has continued uninterrupted during the pandemic.
Oscar-winner Guillermo del Toro’s stop-motion animated musical movie “Pinocchio” for Netflix has announced its cast – newcomer Gregory Mann is in the title role, Ewan McGregor as Cricket, and David Bradley (Harry Potter franchise, Game of Thrones) as Geppetto

Short Film, “Another Day” Follows A Young Black Girl’s Experiences Navigating Through Portland’s Predominately White Schools

Another Day” was written and directed by Portland ethnographic filmmaker, Sommer Martin.

In Martin’s own words, “Another Day” is a film following a young Black girl’s experiences navigating through Portland’s predominately white schools. Another Day, in conjunction with Portland public school teachers and administrators, comes with discussion questions as a guide for viewings of the film for students, teachers, religious organizations, and more. Produced by Golden Pride Productions and starring Broadway actor Bobbi MacKenzie.”

The Regional Arts & Culture Council and “countless other donors” made this project possible.

“The Rental” Topped Nationwide Weekend Box Office – 2nd #OregonMade Movie To Do So This Year!

Last weekend, the Bandon, #OregonMade feature film, “The Rental” – a horror-thriller directed by Dave Franco (“If Beale Street Could Talk”) – topped the nationwide box office. It is available in select theaters and available to watch on a variety of video on demand platforms that began Friday, July 24.

The film stars Alison Brie (“Mad Men,” “Glow”), and Dan Stevens (“Downton Abbey”), in this horror-thriller – a couple looking to get away for a weekend of fun and relaxation with another couple — Sheila Vand (“A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night”) and Jeremy Allen White (“Shameless”) — but when they retreat to a house seemingly ideal for their vacation…they soon realize maybe it isn’t after all. Join us (tomorrow (Thurs 7/23 at 12pm PT) for the live online debut of “Pedal Through“, a film about three young black women taking on a week-long bike packing adventure full of joy, healing, and mentorship with mother nature in Oregon’s backcountry. Followed by a panel discussion with the film’s cast and crew.
