POWGirls Announces Three Workshops For Spring And Summer 2019


The Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival is excited to announce the POWGirls workshops for spring and summer of 2019.
The POWGirls Media Education Program launched in March of 2014 and has hosted thirteen successful workshops, producing 19 films and serving over 100 girls and non-binary youth in the Portland metro area.

Our mission is to help girls and non-binary youth, 15-19, realize their power, creativity and voice in media production and encourage them to explore opportunities as future media-makers. We want to encourage participants to be creative, tech-savvy leaders who will help realize gender equity in media industries.

Members of the Couch Film Collective can enter the 2019 Script to Screen Grant Program for an opportunity to win a $4,000 grant (our biggest grant yet!), massive production and outreach support from our filmmaking collective, and in-kind donations!

The final deadline for submissions is January 20, 2019 at midnight.

Every year, the union performers in the Portland SAG-AFTRA local gather at the Lake Theater in Lake Oswego to watch their union’s televised annual awards event. This year, the event is open to all local union members and supporters, and is doubling as a fundraiser for local SAG-AFTRA president Robert Blanche, who’s fighting for his life after a double lung transplant.

The McMinnville Short Film Festival wants YOUR film! Our regular submission deadline is Monday, December 31. Submit your film today via FilmFreeway !

We accept all genres as long as they are no longer than 20 minutes. Animation films will be eligible for the Will Vinton Best Animation Award. Environmental films will be eligible for the Recology Award. All Official Selections will be eligible for the Grand Jury Prize which includes a $500 cash award as well as a trophy!

We have films coming in from all over Oregon, the US, Canada and the world.

“Lifeboat” Makes Oscar Shortlist

The powerful short film “Lifeboat” from #OregonMade filmmaker Skye Fitzgerald has made the Oscar shortlist for Short Form Documentary.

“Lifeboat” showcases the crisis of refugees desperate enough to risk their lives in rubber boats leaving Libya in the middle of the night and pushing off into the unknown, despite a high probability of drowning. With few resources, but certain that civil society must intervene, a team of global volunteers risks the waves of the Mediterranean to pluck refugees from sinking rafts.

Tune in to TLC on Monday, December 17 to catch episode 9 of the new Season 5 of TLC’s “Long Lost Family” which features The Nunan House in Jacksonville.

“Long Lost Family” follows the touching stories of people who have suffered a lifetime of separation and are yearning to be reunited with their birthparents and biological families or find children they had to place for adoption long ago. It airs on TLC at 9pm.

2nd Annual Outdoor Adventure Film Grant – “Oregon’s Outdoors Are For Everyone” – Closes January 31st!

The second annual Outdoor Adventure Film Grant – “Oregon’s Outdoors Are For Everyone” is open for applications – closes January 31st.

The Grant is being provided by the #OregonMade Creative Foundation in conjunction with Travel Oregon. This grant will provide $20,000 in funding to enable the selected applicant to create a short film that specifically showcases the diversity of people, spirit, passion, and excitement of the outdoor-adventure, or, action sports film genres in the state of Oregon. This program specifically looks to support and encourage diversity of filmmaker and/or the subject matter, in front of and/or behind the camera.
