LOVE IS STRONG, a triad of short films by writer/director Vu Pham, will screen at Cinema 21
on May 2nd at 3:00PM. The films will be introduced by Lawrence Johnson, an award-winning
director of the films Stuff and Hand Game. Following the screening will be a Q&A with Pham
and the films’ cast and crew.
Pham’s previous works includes My Brother (2014), a film exploring the ambivalent relationship
between a Vietnamese-American man and his estranged brother. It was featured at the San Diego

Oregon Story Board have opened up applications for the second class of the Oregon Story Board accelerator program. Check out the FAQ for more information, and apply by May 8th, 2015.
The accelerator provides physical space, business mentorship, collaboration opportunities, infrastructure support, networks, and seed capital to early-stage companies in the film, video, animation, visual effects, digital media and gaming sectors during a four-month class.

The 14th annual Ashland Independent Film Festival took place over the week end in southern Oregon. AIF gives special focus to small independent features and shorts and always includes Oregon projects.
During the 5 days of screenings and events, 97 films were presented, as well as many workshops, Q-and-A’s and “talk-back” sessions. All of the screenings were well attended at this packed festival.
Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation’s On Screen/In Person program tours independent American filmmakers to communities throughout the mid-Atlantic region to screen their recent work. To further engage audiences, Filmmakers also collaborate with host sites to develop community activities, such as artist talks or workshops.
The Foundation covers all travel costs, reimburses the selected filmmakers for eligible expenses, and provides $200 per day for expenses. Filmmakers also receive a $400 stipend for each engagement on tour.

The Oregon Art Beat Special, “The Art of Grimm“, is set to air April 30th. The show employs talented and skilled Oregonians that, each week, help bring the show to life. Oregon Art Beat will be meeting the creative team behind this NBC Universal’s hit drama. Oregon Governor, Kate Brown, was a special guest speaker at the PWA (Portland Workforce Alliance) NW Careers Expo 2015 breakfast this year, along with Portland Mayor, Charlie Hayes, Portland Public School Superintendent, Carole Smith and Elemental Technologies CEO, Sam Blackman. Around 130 employers, and over 5,000 high-schoolers from all over the state attended the expo . The students were able to talk directly to employers about career options, ask advice on paths to take toward their dream jobs, try hands-on applications and participate in mock interviews. The 6th Annual Cinema Pacific unveiled it’s full program coming to Eugene April 27- May 3rd. The festival is a collaboration between the University of Oregon and the community of Eugene, and administered by U of O graduate students. It will be featuring an “array of films, exhibitions, parties and performances” from Pacific rim countries. An exciting part of the festival is the opening, “Adrenaline Film Project” – featuring 12 Oregon filmmaker teams that have 72 hours to create a film from pre through post production. Derek Freese Documentary Fund (DFDF) provides production support for feature-length documentary films that have both a strong narrative and compelling story, across a broad spectrum of subject matters. This award is given biennially to an independent filmmaker and provides up to $35,000 in finishing funds.
