“Rid of Me” trailer online as O’Grady and Westby ready for theatrical release

Quarter Orange’s 2nd Annual Halloween Kickoff Extravaganza!

Once again Quarter Orange will kick the pants off Halloween weekend with a raucous night of unfettered awesomeness and horror at the Holocene.  Badassery to include: A screening of local horror short Evidence of the Sasquatch, which documents the grizzly demise of four filmmakers on a location scout in the Mt. Hood National Forest. Brief Q&A with the filmmakers following the screening. Jams from local electric party monster, Kind Brother and rock providers, Father Figure.

THE NORTHWEST FILM CENTER PRESENTS “MADE IN PORTLAND” SHORTS PROGRAM IN SAPPORO, JAPAN

Portland, OR—The Northwest Film Center is bringing Portland filmmakers into the international spotlight through its presentation of the “Made in Portland” short film program, screening in Sapporo, Japan, as part of the 6th Sapporo International Short Film Festival and Market, October 5 – 10, 2011.

Since 1971, the Film Center has worked to support and celebrate Northwest filmmaking.  The Film Center has been a source of essential funding for numerous artists, administering the Oregon Media Arts Fellowship and serving as a fiscal agent for artists seeking non-profit sponsorship.

Gus Van Sant and James Franco to Screen “My Own Private River”

On September 25 Gus Van Sant and James Franco will be at the Hollywood Theater to screen their film “My Own Private River” which is a re-imagined look at Van Sant’s classic film ‘My Own Private Idaho”.  After their collaboration on “Milk”, Gus shared with Franco the original dailies from the film and the two came up with the idea of re-cutting the film.  For more details on the event go to the Hollywood Theater website.

Local Film “Rid of Me” Secures Distribution with Phase 4

“Rid of Me”, directed, written, and produced by James Westby and Produced by star Katie O’Grady has been acquired by Phase 4 films.  The film has already had great success in several film festivals including the Tribeca Film Festival earlier in the year.  As announced today in Deadline Hollywood the film will get a theatrical release through the deal.  Phase 4 has a wide array of titles in it’s catalog most recently being Kevin Smith’s “Red State”.  No details on the exact release date but the announcement referenced a fall date. An Italian Perspective on American Cinema

In Italy, the idea of American cinema is tightly connected with Hollywood and sensationalist movies where the hero is always handsome and honest and the audience knows that.  By the end of the movie, he will defeat all his enemies who, of course, are ugly and bad.
