Eastern Oregon Film Festival in conjunction with Crossing the Blues: La Grande Summer Festival is pleased to present the 3rd annual La Grande Summer Film Project. The project will kick off on Friday August 13th, with a Night Life social event at White House Coffee (1702 Fourth Street). Teams will be identified, organized, and specific criteria for their film will be given. After the participants have had a chance to “schmooze”, ACTION will be called at 9:00pm – and the filmmakers have 48 hours to deliver their final project. Brownsville, Oregon is about to come alive with “Stand By Me” fans!

Twenty-five years ago, Rob Reiner and his crew came to Brownsville to make the movie Stand By Me.  On Saturday, July 24th, Brownsville will be celebrating the movie’s anniversary with an event that’s fun for all ages.

There will be an amateur pie eating contest (where contestants eat blueberry pie with both hands behind their backs); dancing with a live band playing 50’s music; an old car cruise in; a photo display of pictures taken behind the scenes in 1985 and lots of other things to do and see. Industry Golf and Wine Tour on July 23rd

Over 100 industry guests are already signed up to attend the Final Cut Classic on July 23rd in Hood River Oregon. Participation is designed to bring more exposure and deeper business contacts to the attendees. The event raises money for education scholarships and the OMPA, and it is a great show of support for the crew and other business owners who work together to continue growing the industry. "Deep Green" – A Good Case Study in Good PR

I just got an email update from Lyla Foggia about the current film she’s promoting – “Deep Green”.  The documentary was written, produced, and directed by first-time filmmaker Matt Briggs.  After years of witnessing the slow decline of Oregon’s forests, Matt decided to travel the world to find out what we are doing to solve the global warming issue.  What he found was solutions to the problem, and the film is an informative detailing of the solutions we as individuals and as a society can enact immediately. Youth Silent Film Festival Awards Screening


Ever find yourself pining for the days of F.W. Murnau and D.W. Griffith? This week at the Hollywood Theater in Portland, young film makers from around the Pacific Northwest celebrated the 100th anniversary of the “Mighty Wurlitzer” theater organ by producing over 50 silent film shorts. The theater organ’s squealing melodies provided more than just an accompaniment –students based their videos on one of several 3-minute scores composed by organist Nathan Avakian. Review: “The Goonies” 25th Anniversary Celebration in Astoria, OR
