Whether it’s the thriving independent music scene, live theater, or a combination of multiple creative disciplines, there is no doubt Oregon is a thriving base of creative expression. According to the Oregon Arts Commission over 60,000 jobs in Oregon are directly related to the creative economy. That may not sound like a lot of jobs but when you figure that Oregon has about 1/10 of the population of California, it’s a large section of the total workforce in Oregon. Sure, there have been a few stand-ups, improv performers and sketch-comedy troupes that have been toiling away long enough to be considered Rose City institutions (nationally renowned acts like Lonnie Bruhn, Dax Jordan, The Bridgetown Comedy Festival, ComedySportz, The Brody Theater, The Liberators, The 3^rd Floor, etc…), but it hasn’t been until this year, that members of these niche operations have begun stepping outside of their own brands to co-mingle on various projects. Oregon’s film industry got quite the write-up yesterday in the Hollywood Reporter! The producers of TNT’s Leverage had wonderful things to say about shooting in Oregon, including this quote about Oregon’s talent from Co-Creator Jon Rogers:

“When we got up there we were expecting to fly in three or four cast members an episode, but we average about one or two,” co-creator/executive producer John Rogers says. “Some of the (local) actors have been so good, we’ve made them recurring characters on the show.”

This site is different.

We just got sent this nice little article that appeared in the Oregon Business Magazine July issue. Although their numbers are a little low (total spend is higher than listed), it’s still a nice article. It was nice to see that they included the mention of the show’s practice of distributing $2 bills for per diem payments. Here’s the article if you’re interested.
