Casting Talent Workshop With Scott Ballard
Casting Talent Workshop: October 24th, 10AM-4Pm, $75.
If you have ever wondered how the casting process works or could use some guidance on better communicating with actors, this one-day workshop with director Scott Ballard, is a great place to start. Over the course of the day, workshop particpants will serve as the director in a mock casting session with professional actors and get inside the art and the technique of assessing and selecting the right talent.
SCOTT BALLARD (ScottBallardFilms.com) has produced six feature films and several shorts, and has written, directed and produced three of his own feature films locally (A STANDING STILL, WELCOMING DEPARTURE, DEATH ON THE ROCK).
“Black Road” Premiered October 14th
“Black Road” shot-in-Ashland-and-southern -Oregon-coast sci-fi thriller starring: Sam Daly, Leilani Sarelle, Simon Templeman, Michelle Lombardo, Danforth Comins and Andrew Wilson, written and directed by Oregonian Gary Lundgren, and produced by Anne Lundgren – premiered in Beverly Hills and Ashland last month.
“Voyagers Without Trace” To Premiere At OMSI October 22
On Thursday, October 22nd, NW Documentary will present the Grand Premiere of “Voyagers Without Trace”, a feature documentary directed by Ian McCluskey. This film invites views on a treasure hunt with the filmmaker, to uncover what happened to three French adventurers who became the first to kayak down the Green and Colorado rivers in 1938, but then disappeared into obscurity.
Eugene’s 3rd Annual EFS 72 Hour Horror Film Contest
“The Eugene Film Society and Ninkasi Brewing present the 3rd Annual EFS 72 Hour Horror Film Competition. From October 22-25, regional filmmakers will compete to make the best short horror film within 72 hours incorporating a mandated line of dialogue and prop.
Films submitted by deadline will be screened by a jury of media professionals and an audience at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts on Halloween night. The filmmaker awarded the “Jury Prize” will receive a $1,000 award and the filmmaker given the “Audience Award” will also receive a $1,000 prize.

NBC Universal’s “Grimm” begins season 5 just in time for Halloween, and will premiere October 30 (Fridays 9/8c). The first episode, “The Grimm Identity” promises that “vengeance rises from the ashes”, and this season will contain the 100th episode that Silas Weir Mitchell (Monroe) suggests will finally explain the ramifications of the “keys and coins”. Stay tuned!

TNT’s “The Librarians” will be rolling out their season 2 premiere November 1 (8/7c). “Returning to the universe of TNT’s hit movie franchise, The Librarian, this new series centers on an ancient organization hidden beneath the Metropolitan Public Library dedicated to protecting an unknowing world from the secret, magical reality hidden all around.
Historic Oregon Theater Is Added to HPLO’s “Most Endangered Historic Places” List

The Historic Preservation League of Oregon (Restore Oregon) just released their list of the “most endangered historic places” in Oregon. Communities nominated their top choices and the HPLO chose ten. Of that ten, one is the 85 year old Egyptian Theatre, in downtown Coos Bay. Inside is an original Wurlitzer organ, hand-painted backdrops. According to OPB, the City of Coos Bay “purchased the theater in 2006. After it was listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, a required structural inspection revealed that the building is unsafe to occupy; repairs and other renovations will cost about $3.7 million.”
Catherine E. Coulson Dies At 71
Catherine E. Coulson passed away at her home in Ashland on Monday.Coulson has spent 22 seasons acting in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, but perhaps she is best known as the “log lady” in David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks”. Read more about Coulsons life and career in the OSF release here.

Portland Opera And OMSI To Expand “Opera On Screen” Film Series
Portland Opera and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) will expand their collaborative “Opera on Screen” film series this fall. “Opera on Screen” began in September 2014 with high-definition screenings of four San Francisco Opera productions.
The 2015 series will include four new San Francisco Opera titles—Verdi’s Aida, the Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, Donizetti’s Lucrezia Borgia, and Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov—as well as two bonus screenings—a Halloween weekend duo of The Phantom of the Opera with Lon Chaney and Brian De Palma’s cult classic, Phantom of the Paradise, a contemporary adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera.
