The Southern Oregon Social DisDANCE Film Festival is an effort to bring folks together in a time of social distancing. The call for submissions is open to filmmakers residing in Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, Douglas, Coos, Curry, and Lake counties in Southern Oregon or to student filmmakers remotely enrolled in schools located in those counties.

Please feel free to share any video you like anywhere you like, but, be reminded, that the vote count for the Top 10 winner comes from the highest “likes” and “plays” garnered solely on this showcase page on the Oregon Film Vimeo site.

How the unemployment system is affected by COVID-19
Since mid-April, about 170,000 Oregonians have filed unemployment claims. During the week of March 15 alone, over 76,000 claims were filed, a number roughly four times greater than the highest weekly rate during the 2008 recession. In one week, Oregon went from the lowest weekly number of unemployment claims in its history to the highest. Unfortunately, the unemployment system was not designed to handle so many claims coming in at once, and it is overloaded.
With encouraging short term creation and offering cash prizes in mind, Oregon Film is launching a new short form content contest called: INSPIRATION OREGON.
This first series will be a pilot program aimed at encouraging all creators in Oregon to send us a short, fun, entertaining video (up to 90 seconds, maximum) telling us a story about what is inspiring you during this unprecedented time. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Travis Knight, (CEO, LAIKA) has committed to keeping staff on the company payroll through the temporary closure of the animation studio that is due to the spread of Covid-19.
