Eastern Oregon Film Festival will be celebrating its eleventh year of independent film and music programming VIA La Grande, Oregon on October 22-24, 2020. This year EOFF joins a trend that we are all becoming more accustomed to – virtual cinema. Working with Eventive, an event management platform, EOFF now has the means to deliver this year’s program to our growing audience in their homes, but also the potential to reach far more audience members than ever before.

“The Last Blockbuster” (2020) a feature-length documentary about “the rise and fall of Blockbuster video and how one small town store managed to outlast a corporate giant” is making its World Premiere screening at a BendFilm popup drive-in theatre (in Bend). The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, Zeke Kamm and Taylor Morden. Additionally, you are being invited to bring your old DVDs and VHS tapes to the screening to donate to the cause of keeping “the world’s last Blockbuster afloat“. The Couch Collective presents an event with screenwriter/director/producer Desiree Akhavan on Friday, July 24 at 11a.

In this two hour online workshop, Desiree Akhavan will share insights into her career development, and how to create successful queer content in an industry & country that is “terrified of female sexuality.” We will have an opportunity to analyze a scene from one of her films, as she takes us from concept, to writing, to the finished scene, discussing the writing as well as directing processes.

Oregon Film and the OregonMade Creative Foundation have teamed up with four of the best independent cinemas in Portland, The Northwest Film Center, The Hollywood Theatre, Clinton Street Theater and Cinema 21, to announce the fifth film of The Portland Circuit, a unique program designed to give locally produced, #OregonMade feature length films a short preview screening window in the city.

Scott Vanderpool, welding design and fabrication specialist for Portland Parks & Recreation and owner of Iron Stone Forge, LLC, has been designing and fabricating for business and pleasure in Portland for many years. “I prefer to do artwork and technical/precision fabrications but I bring the artistic side whenever I can. Even something as simple as the welding itself.” Vanderpool’s background is in aerospace and military, he has built critical aircraft, helicopters, rockets and assault boats made from steels to aluminum and titanium alloys. The next installment in The Portland Circuit – a unique, local theatrical distribution program presented in conjunction with the Northwest Film Center, The Clinton Street Theatre, Cinema 21 and The Hollywood Theatre – is Tara Johnson-Medinger’s beautiful coming of age story: “My Summer as a Goth.”

My Summer as a Goth is a story about the sometimes painful-often entertaining-search for identity and love in adolescence. After the sudden death of her father, 16-year-old, Joey Javitts is sent to stay with her eccentric grandparents while her author mother promotes her latest novel.
