Attending our Annual Meeting was Governor Kulongoski, members of the Governor’s Office of Film & Television Board, as well nominees for the annual awards and a large audience of industry professionals at the newly rennovated Lincoln Performance Hall at PSU on Friday evening. PSU‘s technical team made it possible to catch up on industry happenings in Ashland, Bend and Eugene via live broadcast by teleconference bridge.

Live from Baker City, it’s New Year’s Eve!

Very exciting news from Japan! They’ll be shooting LIVE in Baker City for their big New Years Eve Show. It’s sort of like our Dick Clark’s rockin’ New Years Eve,where they flip to different venues around the country-only the Japan version is flipping to different interesting venues around the world. Yep. That’s right, including us in Oregon. We think this is the first time Japan TV has ever broadcast live from Oregon for any reason. Unbelievable TV Show is one of the highest rated TV shows in Japan, now in its 11th season.

The Independent Film Channel is beginning to roll out more footage for the upcoming series “Portlandia”. At the film office, we’re waiting with baited breath for the premiere air date on January 21. Actually we’ve been invited to participate in the premiere party in New York City on January 19 as a sponsor. The premiere party will be at the Edison Ballroom in Mid Town Manhattan and IFC is committed to making the party all about Portland (rumor has it a popular local band will be performing).

Part of the Tron franchise produced in Oregon

Yesterday in the New York Times Arts Section Adam Kepler wrote a piece about the new “Tron: Legacy” Motion comic that is out in conjunction with the feature release. I bet you didn’t know that this was produced by an up and coming company here in Oregon. Double Barrel Motion Labs is a growing company that has a base here in Portland and recently has shown interest in having even more of a footprint in Oregon. Chief Executive Jeff Kreilitz called our office earlier in the year as his company started to line up a slew of new projects.

Summer Opportunities for Oregon Filmmakers & Digital Artist

Remember what it felt like the moment that you wanted to make movies? Where where you? What inspired you to create? Who inspired you to create? What if you could be the person who sparks the creativity of the next great filmmaker or digital artist?

I loved my freelance life (yep, a production designer, wardrobe designer, production coordinator and writer), but when things were slow, I had to look for other opportunities and I found the most amazing group of people: kids who already knew they wanted to be in the biz!

The only way you weren’t entertained by at least one Weiden + Kennedy campaign this year was if you refused to look at one screen all year. Between their “Old Spice” campaign and various “Nike” campaigns, it’s been a banner year for the Portland headquartered ad agency. Here is a link to their blog where they list all the year end accolades the agency has received so far in 2010. It’s hard to call W+K and ad agency any more after “Old Spice” campaign considering the campaign was as entertaining as most programming these days.

Oregon Film Annual Meeting – Things Shaping Up!

With our Annual Meeting a little over a week away, things are coming together and I know it’s going to be a great night! As for the annual meeting here is the date and time:

December 17 @ 7:00

There will be a statewide teleconference so if you live in or nearby Ashland, Bend, Eugene, or Portland, you can attend. It’s open to the public.

In Portland we will be originating the teleconference from the newly remodeled Lincoln Hall at Portland State University.

Highly anticipated annual party by Oregon’s premier film/TV production non-profit

The Oregon Media Production Association (OMPA) announces its annual winter holiday party for commercial, film and television industry professionals on Friday, December 17th, 2010 from 8 pm to 11 pm at Portland City Hall. Hundreds of guests including government leaders, producers, artists, actors, crew, agents and vendors – a who’s who in Oregon’s biz – are scheduled to attend. Doors open immediately following the Governor’s Office of Film & Television annual meeting at PSU’s Lincoln Hall.

Portland-based Animator and Students Help Create “Community” Holiday Episode

Fans of the NBC comedy Community have been looking forward to tonight’s Holiday episode, in which the show’s cast is transformed into holiday-special-style stop motion characters. Where did the producers of Community look when they were searching for someone to create these Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer-like stop motion characters?

According to the Oregonian’s Kirsti Turnquist, the producers turned their eyes north to Portland, where they found animation specialist Teresa Drilling. Drilling, who won an Emmy in 2008 for her work on Creature Comforts, worked “around the clock” for two months on the NBC comedy… and she also took four Art Institute of Portland students along for the ride!

Paydogs LLC Provides Script Clearances

Since September Paydogs has been set up as an Oregon vendor providing fiscal support services to media productions in Oregon. It’s been an exciting 3 months as we’ve run payroll for two features, and have continued to expand the scope of what we are able to offer.
