Short film “home sounds” look to become a Finalist in Seed & Spark’s 2026 AAPI Renaissance Rally

The dark comedy short film home sounds, which is inspired by writer/director Selin Sevinç’s experiences with depression in her early twenties in Turkey, is crowdfunding until April 29th as part of Seed & Spark AAPI Renaissance Rally. Produced by studio.pebble‘s Aaron Wong, the film will be shot in Portland in mid-May 2026 and will star Sebiye Behtiyar. Sebiye’s feature debut performance in PREPARATION FOR THE NEXT LIFE was nominated for Best Breakthrough Performance at the 2025 Gotham Awards and was on several best of 2025 lists. Inaugural Year Of RISE: A Community Cinema Showcase! Sept 18, 7 pm, Cinema 21

Rise: A Community Cinema Showcase is co-presented by Catalyst Film Collective and Women in Film – Portland. The showcase will feature seven short films made by members from both organizations, tied by themes of rising above life’s challenges to uncover our truest selves.

Catalyst Film Collective is a Portland-based nonprofit elevating new voices in film by creating opportunities for members of marginalized communities to tell their own stories—both in front of and behind the camera—at all levels of production.

WIF PDX Vision Grant Open For Applications

In their ongoing commitment to empowering local filmmakers, Women in Film PDX is increasing the grant amount to $10,000 for this year’s recipient (previously at $5,000).

The Vision Grant, now in its 11th year, has been a cornerstone of Women in Film PDX’s mission to foster creativity, innovation, and inclusivity within the film community. The grant is designed to provide financial support to emerging female and nonbinary filmmakers in the Portland Metro area, enabling them to bring their unique visions to the screen and contribute their diverse voices to the world of cinema.
