The Northwest Film Center has a Dialogue Writing class that starts Wednesday July 1. Taught by local award-winning writer and director Steve Doughton (Buoy, 2012) the class includes writing exercises meant to unlock your artist’s toolbox, deconstructing scenes from films (Cassavetes and Mamet!), and a session with actors in-class. The 72-Hour Filmmaker Scramble challenges filmmakers to create original short films in just 72 hours based on a a surprise theme, action, or prop assignment.

The highly-anticipated 30th anniversary of “The Goonies“, took place over 4 days in Astoria last month. The celebration kicked off with the Geocache “One Eyed Willie Treasure” hunt at the Astoria Armory, with the official “Goonies Day” being marked as June 7th. Several screenings of the movie took place over the four days with the collective events attracted around 15,000 fans from all over the world, celebrating the “Farewell to Warren Field” (location featured in the film’s opening), original cast appearances and the largest collective of the Truffle Shuffle the world has ever seen! The Oregon Coast Film Festival invites submissions by professionals and amateurs through September 1. Categories for documentary shorts are, Historical and Cultural; Tourism, Outdoor and Recreational; Student Videos; and a new 2015 Cranberry Challenge category. Independent and feature length submissions are also welcome.

His off the cuff commentary, though in jest, nonetheless proved a perfect transition from bb gun toting and hatchet throwing to a roundtable discussion on independent film beneath the towering trees of his backyard.
