Northwest Film Center Offers Two New Community Meet-Up Groups

The Northwest Film Center’s School of Film (934 SW Salmon Street, Portland) has long been a hub on the Portland arts scene, where students interested in creating media come together to network, share tips and techniques, and support each other’s work.  In addition to its roster of film production courses and workshops, the School of Film has hosted the long-running Sisters in Cinema group, a quarterly gathering of local women mediamakers which provides a forum for the voices of women as artists and storytellers.   Continue reading... “Northwest Film Center Offers Two New Community Meet-Up Groups”

Northwest Film Center Announces 37th NW Film & Video Festivalʼs Audience Awards

The 37th Northwest Film & Video Festival, which receives submissions from artists in Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho, wrapped up its 9 day run Saturday, November 13 after screening 11 features and 28 short films, 12 of which were singled out for special recognition by Gill Dennis, this year’s festival judge and Master-Filmmaker-in-Residence at the American Film Institute.

Audience awards go to the following filmmakers for best feature and best shorts. Portland filmmaker Andy Blubaughʼs first feature film THE ADULTS IN THE ROOM emerged with the Favorite Feature prize. OMA Fellowship Winners Announced

The Oregon Media Arts Fellowship, established to recognize and support the work of Oregon film and video makers, announced its 2010 awards November 5 at the 37th Northwest Film & Video Festival to Portland filmmakers Matt McCormick, Nick Peterson and Elijah Hasan. Filmmakers receive cash fellowships administered by the Northwest Film Center.

Like your cinema raw, fresh and homegrown? Kicking off this weekend is the 37th Northwest Film & Video Festival, which will deliver if you answered yes to that last sentence. The annual celebration will be just that. A celebration. Of new work by the premier media artists working in Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Montana, and Idaho, showcasing 39 new films, 12 of which were singled out for special recognition by Gill Dennis, this year’s festival judge and Master-Filmmaker-in-Residence at the American Film Institute (also known for his screenplays for the dark, 40-plus-years-later sequel “Return to Oz” and the Johnny Cash biopic “Walk the Line,” among others).
