2015 Oregon Music Hall of Fame inductee Jerry Joseph launches “Mars”, the first video from his upcoming double vinyl album, By The Time Your Rocket Gets To Marsavailable April 15 from Voodoo Doughnut Records / Cosmo Sex School, with an exclusive premiere on

“I was walking down the beach in Chicago years ago talking about technology with a couple of current captains of the tech industry. They were heavily invested in Elon Musk and discussing his plans to have a person on Mars in 20 years. I said that when I was a little boy, I told my parents I wanted to go to Mars and they bought me pajamas with rockets on them. Now when my son says he wants to go Mars, I say I have the guy’s number! I told my son I thought a trip to Mars was too long and too dangerous and he replied, “Oh Dad, you’ll be in heaven a long time before my rocket gets to Mars.”

Written in Afghanistan while he was volunteering as a teacher at an underground co-ed rock school in Kabul, Joseph wrote “Mars,” homesick and missing his family, to a backdrop of calls to prayer and American Blackhawk helicopter patrols.

The video for Mars was produced and directed by Matt Schulte of Lower Boom. Set in the dark recesses of a metal shop, a crazed dreamer toils away at his secret obsession. Featuring Joseph and shot in Portland using drone cameras and moonlight, the video articulates the longing of the driven.

By The Time Your Rocket Gets to Mars will be released on Voodoo Doughnut Recordings in collaboration with Joseph’s own Cosmo Sex School Records on April 15, 2016. It was recorded at TRI Studios, produced by Dave Schools (J Mascis and the Fog, Hard Working Americans, Stockholm Syndrome), mixed by Jim Scott (Tom Petty, Wilco) and features Joseph’s full band.

Joseph is a prolific and accomplished songwriter, writing hits for Widespread Panic and releasing 30 albums in his 30+ year career; as a solo artist, with the Jackmormons, supergroup Stockholm Syndrome, his burning two-piece The Denmark Veseys, or originally, with his beloved 80s cult band, Little Women.

Joseph was inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame in October 2015. He is currently on tour in Australia and New Zealand and will be touring the States this Spring and Summer. Check for tour dates.
