Buffalo Soldiers: Fighting On Two Fronts will be broadcast nationally on PBS June 12th at 10pm ET and as part of a Juneteenth special for WORLD Channel’s series ‘Local, USA’ on June 19th at 8pm ET.

The iconic Buffalo Soldiers fought on two very different sets of front lines: military conflicts abroad and civil rights struggles at home. Though the 14th Amendment promised citizenship in exchange for enlistment, Black men were denied this right due to Jim Crow laws. The award-winning documentary, Buffalo Soldiers: Fighting on Two Fronts, explores the profound and often contradictory roles played by Black soldiers in the United States military. Music Video Make-A-Thon for Black Porltand-Based Musicians – Open Signal

Open Signal’s 2nd annual music video make-a-thon will be hosted on Saturday June 18th, and will honor Juneteenth celebrations by making music videos for Black Portland-based musicians. Spots are limited to 24 Open Signal Members and the registration deadline is May 23rd.  Filmmakers will work together to come up with concepts, storyboard, shooting, and editing all within the 6 hour time limit and Open Signal will host a screening that night to view the music videos. Call for Submissions: OMPA Juneteenth Homepage Takeover

In honor of Juneteenth—a holiday commemorating the freeing of slaves in 1865—OMPA is dedicating the space of our homepage to celebrating Black creators. From June 19-26, our homepage will be a vibrant mosaic of projects and stories from our Black community members. We’ll be promoting the takeover to the community at large, encouraging them to go explore.
