The #OregonMade dramatic feature, “Breakup Season” is set to shoot in, and around, La Grande and Pendleton, in February 2023.
Twenty-something Ben brings his girlfriend Cassie to his rural Oregon hometown for Christmas. Upon arrival, an argument turns into a breakup, and the holiday goes from Xmas to Ex-mas. After a brutal snowstorm and airport closure, Cassie is now stuck with her newly minted ex and his family through the holiday.
The film is written and directed by H. Nelson Tracey, who developed the screenplay through the Eastern Oregon Filmmaker Residency. Los Angeles-based Static Films will produce.
Nelson says, “Directing and producing a movie in Eastern Oregon has been a goal since my first visit to La Grande in 2019. Few movies have ever been shot here – none in the last 20 years. The plot itself strikes a balance of comedy and drama, in the vein of Lady Bird, The Worst Person in the World, or Take This Waltz. By creating a relatable relationship dramedy that showcases a unique and stunning location, we will produce a memorable independent film to be enjoyed by everyone in Oregon and nationwide.”
Breakup Season has partnered with the Eastern Oregon Film Festival and is working closely with the Union County Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Department to connect with local resources and support for this ~35 person production, composed mainly of local Oregonians.
