The April mixer will feature a presentation from Bradley Aaron, Screenwriter, on How To Format A Screenplay (approximately 20 minutes), followed by a fun trivia game, then plenty of time to network with other filmmakers. New Sci-Fi Short “The Winemaker” Will Draw Inspiration From The Oregon Female Winemaking Community

A new sci-fi proof-of-concept film, drawing on inspiration from the natural winemaking community in Oregon–and especially its female champions–is in pre-production. THE WINEMAKER is about Joanie, who harbors a cosmic secret, but must finish the year’s vintage before her enemies come for vengeance.

The project is now crowdfunding on Seed & Spark. Having made its initial goal in only 17 days (with help from producers Andy Gould and Jon “Shabba” Linton), the project is now raising funds for post-production. Call for applications: NWDoc college doc program now open

Calling all Oregon student filmmakers! We welcome filmmakers from colleges across Oregon to apply for the 2023 NW Documentary shorts program in collaboration with Portland State University’s InventOR program.

What is the InventOR documentary program?

Through the InventOR documentary program, students will create short films about an InventOR team at their school or surrounding area. “Breakup Season” to Begin Production in Eastern Oregon

The #OregonMade dramatic feature, “Breakup Season” is set to shoot in, and around, La Grande and Pendleton, in February 2023.

Twenty-something Ben brings his girlfriend Cassie to his rural Oregon hometown for Christmas. Upon arrival, an argument turns into a breakup, and the holiday goes from Xmas to Ex-mas. After a brutal snowstorm and airport closure, Cassie is now stuck with her newly minted ex and his family through the holiday.

#OregonMade “Earthlings” Premieres At Goteborg International Film Festival

After over two excruciatingly long years, the Oregon-made film Earthlings from Portland filmmaker Steven Doughton and producer Jacqueline Gault will get its World Premiere as the only US film in the 2023 International Competition at the 2023 Goteborg International Film Festival on February 2nd in Goteborg, Sweden.

“We completed the film just prior to the pandemic, and were crushed when festivals went online for nearly two years. We wanted the big festival premiere experience, so we held the film back and waited patiently,” notes Gault. Creative Opportunity Program Launches for 2022-23

Last legislative session a bill passed that allowed Oregon Film to allocate funds to a program called the “Creative Opportunity Program.” This program dedicates up to $375,000 per year to creative projects, producers and programs around the state. These programs include the continuation of existing programs like the Pathways job training and placement program, the Outdoor Adventure Film Grant, the Tell Your Story Grant and partnership programs like CINE/SEEN and Creatives of Color Networking events (OMPA) and the BIPOC Filmmaker Grant (BendFilm). I hope you’ve been enjoying the end of August. We had such a great time at the Willamette Writers Conference (have you seen some of the pictures?) and are now getting ready for a new year of programming.
