A new film, “Drug Holiday,” will be premiere November 14 at the Mission Theater and will be available on streaming afterwards. It features a thinly veiled version of Portland where the opioid crisis is colliding with rapid gentrification, and two sets of best friends head off into the night with nothing but each other and their destructive coping mechanisms. From the director of the rock opera, “Waiting for the Kick” (Ilima Considine) which won an Oregon Fringe Festival’s 2024 Cinema Honorarium. This nanobudget production was partially funded by a grant from The Holler Fund/Oregon Music Hall of Fame.
In a town where the opioid crisis is colliding with rapid gentrification, two best friends set off into a night of house parties in a fictional version of 90’s Portland in this black comedy/psychological horror of a rock opera composed by Ilima Considine of The Sexbots.
The film was written and directed by Ilima Considine (who also composed the score) with Mike Lindberg who served as the director of photography and Juliana Tobon who oversaw the intimacy coordination.
