“The Berlin Bride” to Premiere at Germany’s Hof International Film Festival

Michael Bartlett’s Portland produced film “The Berlin Bride” will premiere at Germany’s Hof International Film Festival. Now in its 53rd year, Hof is one of the leading film fests in Germany and has become well-established as a platform for young German directors and is widely regarded as important arena for discovering new talents. Of equal importance, however, are the independent movies from all over the world that make up roughly half the program consisting of 130 odd feature films, documentaries and shorts.
There will also be a “Sneak Preview” at the Santa Cruz Film Festival next week.  Get tickets for that event here.
“The Berlin Bride” is a near-silent tale inspired by the silent film era, the writings of Poe and the German fantasist E.T.A Hoffmann. Two oddball Berliners discover individually the parts of a department store mannequin in a city park occupied by nude sunbathers. Under the mannequin’s spell, and with harrowing consequence, the men come to terms with their disjointed mate. A cautionary tale of unrequited sexuality and blurring gender identity. A surreal vision of sexual evolution and misguided passion.
A Portland-based filmmaker – Michael Bartlett also  wrote, directed and produced the award winning “House of Last Things”, starring RJ Mitte (Breaking Bad) and Lindsey Haun (True Blood). “House of Last Things” received support from Oregon’s Indigenous Filmmaker Production Investment. It premiered in France and Germany and was released worldwide in 2013.
