TOUCH OF EVIL
US 1958
DIRECTOR: ORSON WELLES
Welles chose to star in his last American film, a classic noir thriller in which a sinister police detective (Welles) is memorably caught up in mysterious crimes in a sleazy border town. “How do you make an amazing film even better? Get Walter Murch to re-edit the picture and re-do the sound per Orson Welles’ suggestions. I love this film, the cinematography, the lighting, and the performances (okay, Charlton Heston as a Mexican detective is a stretch…). I would rent it every year and find something new every time I watched it. Then Walter stepped in and showed us Welles’ true genius. I believe this film blows CITIZEN KANE out of the water, and I’ll tell you why.”—Kelley Baker. (95 mins.) School of Film instructor Kelley Baker will introduce the film.
