On the verge of closing, the mostly empty mall finds temporary new life as an “arts district” featuring everything from a magic show, a comic book store, roller disco, tattoos and much more, becoming a makeshift small town. Can capitalism and community co-exist?
Directed by Courtney Hermann, “Outliers and Outlaws” is a story of lesbian world-builders, Outliers and Outlaws uncovers the fabulous history of a large and vibrant lesbian community in Eugene, Oregon. Women who migrated to this small town in the 1960s-80s candidly share stories about the power of courageous and creative world-building. Intimate portraits—both then and now—model living in hard times with hope, humor, and commitment to social change. Portland Based Pander Brothers have released their feature film “Altered Ego” on Prime Video. Originally titled “Selfless” the movie stars Mo Gallini (2 fast 2 Furious), Joshua Rengert and Jen Hong.
Coinciding with the opening of Portland Art Museum’s campus transformation in November, PAM CUT // Center for an Untold Tomorrow announces a reimagined yearly festival experience like no other, PLUS PLUS. Through this additive, ever-evolving celebration of artists who dissolve boundaries and defy easy categorization, this year’s lineup of ten groundbreaking media arts premieres and one-night-only events will take place over two weekends—November 13–23, 2025—at both the PAM CUT Tomorrow Theater and Portland Art Museum.

The Amplify Portland: Local Filmmakers Production Grant aims to create opportunity for filmmakers utilizing local talent, crew and vendors during production. Our focus is on the professional development of the local industry and bringing exposure to Portland via its presence on screen.

The Indigenous Creative Stage Workers Alliance (ICSWA) Production Assistant Workshop will be held in Portland Oregon on Saturday November 8th from 1-3:30.
The Production Assistant Workshop offers a 1 day training to prepare participants for an entry level job in film & television. Job placement is also offered for graduates of this workshop. There will be a catered lunch provided for participants.

The #OregonMade film “Deafula”will screen at the Hollywood Theatre on October 4th and 5th at the Hollywood Theatre. “Deafula” is the first ASL feature film ever made and 2025 is its 50th anniversary.
The 50th anniversary of the first feature film performed completely in American Sign Language. “Deafula” was shot in Portland – including scenes at the Pittock Mansion – and tells the timeworn story of a man coming to realize he may, in fact, be a vampire.

WIF-PDX’s Educate & Incubate program is designed to help folks with historically marginalized access to the film industry (BIPOC, LGBTQ, disabled, women, people experiencing poverty) get their projects made and support career advancement in the film, media, and entertainment industry. Our goal is to help storytellers bring their work to fruition, ultimately diversifying our culture’s media. This diversification of stories is at the heart of WIF-PDX’s mission and belief that we will only see clearly when everyone is allowed to offer their point of view.
