Introduction to basic audio recording both in the field and in controlled environments. Use professional sound gear to record sound effects, scripted dialogue and interviews. Get it right in the field to avoid costly post production repairs. Learn set protocols for working with camera and lighting personnel effectively. The basics of sound editing will also be introduced. Weekly hands on demonstrations in class include mics, mixers, recorders and accessories for field recording. Students will complete short recording assignments between classes including recording sound effects, voiceover narration, interview, dialogue, and foley. In one session, software developer Paul Kovitz will demo and discuss the advanced features of the Sound Devices MixPre-3.

In our Monthly Film Series, we will show a variety of GERMAN or GERMAN language films from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. On the 2nd Wednesday of each month, audiences will now have a chance to see these films on a regular basis at the CLINTON STREET THEATER. (Children movies will be playing on Sunday afternoons – please check our website.) All films are with English subtitles.
As a boy, Philipp was strongly attracted to his best friend, but he put that behind him in order to live within the “norm.” He meets a shy girl who falls for him, and soon the couple is sharing an apartment. But Philipp cannot deny his passionate desire for a young man. After years of repressing his sexuality, he finally accepts himself for who he truly is.
Hailed as the first and only feature film about gay life ever produced in communist East Germany, Coming Out premiered on the night the Berlin Wall opened, November 9, 1989.

Knife Skills is a 2018 Oscar®-nominated documentary about reentry, second chances, and the healing power of good food. Following the hectic launch of Edwins restaurant in Cleveland, where all the staff are just out of prison, the film follows three trainees, tracing their struggle to launch new lives on the outside. (40 minutes)
America’s First Foodie is Portland director Elizabeth Federici's fascinating biography of James Beard, the Portland, Oregon, native who had the first cooking show on television; was the author of 22 cookbooks along with a syndicated newspaper column and countless magazine pieces; and ran an acclaimed cooking school out of his townhouse in New York City. America’s First Foodie relates the story of Beard’s life while chronicling a century in the food movement. (55 minutes)
This double-header screening will be followed by a Q&A with director of James Beard: America's First Foodie, Elizabeth Federici, and other special guests TBD. Doors open at 6 pm.
