Presenters Include:
David Wilson of True/False Film Festival
David Wilson is the Co-Founder and Programming Director of True/False, one of the world’s most influential documentary film festivals, just completing its tenth year. David will present "Festival Strategy for your Documentary from a Programmer's Perspective," outlining ways doc makers can better target festivals and improve chances for extending a film's festival life.
In addition to running True/False, David is a Programming Associate with the Sundance Film Festival; has acted as a panelist for Sundance, IFP Markets in New York and Chicago; and has served on juries at the Morelia Film Festival in Mexico, Slamdance, and the Antenna Festival in Sydney, Australia. David also serves as a consultant for the Creative Capital Foundation, the LEF Moving Image Fund, and NEA.
In small break-out consultation sessions, David will be joined by Arin Lieberman--veteran manager with the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP), Silverdocs, and True/False. Arin has produced with National Geographic, and has served as a panelist and jury member with several festivals nationwide.
Jilann Spitzmiller & Hank Rogerson, creators of Shakespeare Behind Bars & Documentors
Jilann and Hank are co-Producers of Shakespeare Behind Bars, an award-winning film that was showcased at Sundance, True/False, BendFilm, and many other festivals, and broadcast in 25 U.S. cities, as well as internationally. The duo will offer a workshop on crowdfunding for films at any stage of production, as well as “Mapping Your Documentary,” a story structure master class, with the opportunity to meet one-on-one to discuss your film.
Jilann and Hank are also the co-founders of DocuMentors, a full-service website and mentoring service for documentary filmmakers needing resources, information and support. They will host an exclusive sneak peek screening of their new film Still Dreaming, a documentary about a group of elderly entertainers as they bravely mount Shakespeare's romp through a moonlit forest, "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
Christoph Baaden & Marci Hume, creators of Hood to Coast
Christoph & Marci are producers of the highly successful documentary Hood to Coast, as well as many international films and broadcast programs. Hood to Coast follows four quirky teams on their epic journey to conquer the world's largest relay race. The film premiered at SXSW in 2010 and was released theatrically in 2011.
Christoph & Marci will offer a workshop on DIY Distribution—looking at how to creatively get your film to audiences and screens. Christoph & Marci are at work on their next feature-length documentary, Where the Magic Happens. The film closely follows several world-class magicians who are making a full-time living at the thing they love most. The film focuses on professional, accomplished magicians and chronicles a year-long roller coaster of trials and triumphs as they pursue their greatest passion. Ultimately the film is about pursuing that passion no matter what gets in the way, no matter if anyone else understands or not. (They recently raised $45,000 on Kickstarter for the film!)
Composer Mark Orton
Mark is a highly esteemed film composer and multi-instrumental performer with involvement in several touring groups, such as TIN HAT, which he co-founded. His original scores include The Real Dirt on Farmer John, Everything is Illuminated, Buck, The Good Girl, Sweet Land, Dryland, as well as the new Alexander Payne feature Nebraska and the upcoming Ken Burns series The Roosevelts.
Mark will offer a Master Class for those either wishing to work with a composer, license published music, or both—and he’ll help unravel the legal and financial particulars of acquiring rights, budgeting for music, creating the cue sheet, and much more.
Mark will also offer individual sessions for those interested in learning more about creating music for their films.
