The OPB Independent Film Festival is this August
OPB is celebrating the power of independent films with the OPB Independent Film Festival all month long on OPB TV.
Each weeknight at 10 p.m. from August 10-24, enjoy a documentary film from the POV and Independent Lens libraries. The festival wraps up with the annual OPB series Oregon Lens from August 24-28, which showcases the diverse work of local filmmakers.

Hollywood Theatre Creates New Media Arts Program For Under-served Youth
A new initiative from Hollywood Theatre at Open Meadow Middle School has been made possible by a generous $280,000 grant from the Oregon Community Foundation, $100,000 from the Mt. Hood Cable Regulatory Commission, and $10,500 from the Oregon Arts Commission.
The Hollywood Theatre has already had a three year partnership with Open Meadow High School (OMHS), and coupled with the nearly a decade of working with under-served, middle school age youth, they will “cultivate a sustainable, community powered, school-based media arts program at OMMS, bolstering engagement with students’ families and the surrounding community, and increasing the expertise of educators in the area of media arts”. Go “Back O’er Oregon” On State Park Day, June 7th
You can catch a glimpse of Oregon’s many state parks on the “Back O’er Oregon” music video that Slater Smith and his band The Weather Machine debuted last year on Rainn Wilson’s website Soul Pancake. Cinema Pacific Festival Kicks Off In Eugene April 23rd

Richard Herskowitz, Director of Cinema Pacific says, “This year I’m particularly excited about our partnership with UO Libraries on the James Blue Project, supplementing the exciting new archive of UO alumnus James Blue’s work that is being donated to Special Collections. Also, Cinema Pacific is working closely with the Schnitzer Museum on an array of live performances, panels, and media installations featuring Portland-based media artist Vanessa Renwick, titled Art for Endangered Species, as well as the annual new media exhibition and party, the Fringe Festival. “The Wilderness of James” to World Premiere at SXSW
The iOPIF feature, “The Wilderness of James“, that shot in Portland in 2012, is to have it’s world premiere at SXSW this year. Michael Johnson (formerly from Kamp Grizzly), wrote and directed the feature, it stars Kodi Smit-McPhee (“The Road”, voice of Norman Babcock in “ParaNorman”), Virginia Madsen (“Sideways”), Isabelle Fuhrman (“Orphan”), Evan Ross (“Jeff Who Lives At home”), and Danny Devito (“One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest”).

Reese Witherspoon’s “Wild” Shot More Locations In Oregon Than Any Other Project To Date

It was gratifying that “Wild” shot in more places in our state than any other feature film to date. Reese Witherspoon (“Walk The Line, Mud”) traveled the entire length of Oregon from southern and central regions, up to the Gorge and Portland metro while shooting (author), Cheryl Strayed’s, NY Times best-seller novel, “Wild”. Witherspoon is not only starring in this Fox Searchlight feature, but producing with business partner Bruna Papandrea (“Warm Bodies”, “all Good Things”) under their Pacific Standard banner, and River Road’s, Bill Pohland (“The Tree of Life”, “Twelve Years A Slave”).
