Behind The “Back O’er Oregon” Music Video and Website

Jotham Porzio

By now you may well have read some of the blog posts here about Slater Smith, his band “The Weather Machine” and the journey Smith undertook (in conjunction with Oregon Film and Oregon State Parks) to get the music video and corresponding web site up.  (As a reminder, Smith made an ambitious trip around Oregon visiting 185 Oregon State Parks to bring us his new music video for the single, “Back O’er Oregon”). But what about the folks behind the scenes on this project?  Continue reading... “Behind The “Back O’er Oregon” Music Video and Website”

The Impact of Oregon Film

Hi All– I’m the new intern here at the Governor’s Office of Film & Television.  I love all things film and Oregon, as well as baking and studying communication theory.  If you want to talk about the entertainment industry, I’m practically a walking IMDb.

Have a good one!   -Katlyn Prentice

You can learn quite a bit by the clothes you wear.  Walking around my campus in Boston, sporting my new Portlandia sweatshirt, I learned a lot about the impact that Oregon filmmaking has on rest of the country.  Continue reading... “The Impact of Oregon Film”

Grimm Doesn’t Just Look Green Because Of The Weather….

We could not have been happier when NBC Universal contacted us to collaborate on their greening efforts for the series, Grimm.  We immediately recognized this particular show as a good match and unique opportunity to put the foundation of our previous work in identifying green vendors and services to good use.

NBCUniversal’s Green Is Universal initiative has an admirable, on-going, corporate-wide environmental initiative that attempts to lessen their shows’ environmental impact by working with local resources and finding innovative ways to improve on their overall footprint. “Commercially Speaking . . .”

Most of the attention of late has focused on feature films and the renewal of the production incentives. The press loves to write about the “Leverages,” the “Grimms,” the “Gones” and the “Portlandias’ because they bring recognizable star talent to Portland.  And because they have a mystique about them; they are, for all intents and purposes, “the movies,” “Hollywood.” But we don’t want to loose sight of that portion of the production world that has provided a reasonably steady stream of work for local crew and local vendors; the COMMERCIAL. Summer Opportunities for Oregon Filmmakers & Digital Artist

Remember what it felt like the moment that you wanted to make movies? Where where you? What inspired you to create? Who inspired you to create? What if you could be the person who sparks the creativity of the next great filmmaker or digital artist?

I loved my freelance life (yep, a production designer, wardrobe designer, production coordinator and writer), but when things were slow, I had to look for other opportunities and I found the most amazing group of people: kids who already knew they wanted to be in the biz!
