Go “Back O’er Oregon” On State Park Day, June 7th

Screen Shot 2014-06-05 at 1.21.07 PM June 7th is a celebration for Oregon’s huge array of state parks.  State Park Day is offering free camping and day use as way to thank the public and  welcome use of these beautiful areas.

You can catch a glimpse of Oregon’s many state parks on the “Back O’er Oregon” music video that Slater Smith and his band The Weather Machine  debuted last year on Rainn Wilson’s website Soul Pancake.  The project was a creative collaboration between Oregon Parks and Recreation and the Governor’s Office of Film and Television. Members of the Production Industry At PWA NW Youth Careers Expo

Last week saw a strong turnout for the Annual Portland Workforce Alliance NW Youth Careers Expo.  Oregon Film asked members of the production community to join us in showcasing an array of production job opportunities that are here in Oregon.  With a staggering 5,000 students attending, it was a productive day showing future job possibilities in a hands-on way.

We thank Tim Oakley (Oakley Design Studios), who had some amazing hand-made props on display, LAIKA House, who brought sketch books for the students as well as a ParaNorman puppet with various “faces” to illustrate how stop-motion works; Koerner Camera had their RED camera running; Bent Image Lab had an array of their amazing puppets to examine; video game developer SuperGenius was on hand showing students the possibilities of working in the exiting gaming world; Loren Haleston talked through his remote controlled cameras for his high quality automotive video media business.  Continue reading... “Portland Workforce Alliance Youth Careers Expo Had A Strong Turnout”

Welcome To PixAir!

mockup3

When Perry sent me an email letting me know that he had purchased a jet airliner mock up I knew I had to go check it out.  While one or two options for filming in an airliner exist, none present an option that is logistically straight forward and simple.  Shooting inside a real plane is of course the most realistic but the process is complex.  Everything, including all crew and equipment, must pass through security and the crew is matched up with TSA agents inside and outside on the tarmac. Reese Witherspoon’s “Wild” Shot More Locations In Oregon Than Any Other Project To Date

(All these great Oregon pictures were taken by Reese Witherspoon while on location for “Wild”)

It was gratifying that “Wild” shot in more places in our state than any other feature film to date.  Reese Witherspoon (“Walk The Line, Mud”) traveled the entire length of Oregon from southern and central regions, up to the Gorge and Portland metro while shooting (author), Cheryl Strayed’s, NY Times best-seller novel, “Wild”.  Witherspoon is not only starring in this Fox Searchlight feature, but producing with business partner Bruna Papandrea (“Warm Bodies”, “all Good Things”) under their Pacific Standard banner, and River Road’s, Bill Pohland (“The Tree of Life”, “Twelve Years A Slave”). Tips For Renting Your ‘Hot Property’ As A Film Location

Filming “Train Master 2” in Portland

Of the five major broadcast television networks’ 23 new one-hour dramas offered up last year, only two were filmed in Hollywood. State tax incentives from outside California have successfully lured many productions to other economies, and created a growing market for a variety of property owners in Oregon as location providers. Indicating the extent to which films are made outside the confines of studio lots in America, about five years ago- when California still commanded the lion’s share of the film location market -Los Angeles County issued permits for over 30,000 film location days, with about 75% of Southern California’s location filming shooting in private residences.
