Animal House travels to Portland: Pieces of and set items from the original animal house are reassembled in celebration of the collegial Oregon comedy

Original Cast and Crew from the movie Animal House reprise items from the Cottage Grove and Eugene sets of the infamous #OregonMade movie for a historic celebration of an Oregon film on Sunday, October 30, 2016. A 5pm VIP Reception is followed by a 6pm concert and celebration at The Exchange Ballroom (123 NE 3rd Avenue, Portland, Oregon). The public is invited to what will be a celebration of historic proportion. Tickets on sale now.

The “Louie Louie” Kingsmen perform in celebration of the anniversary of shooting the infamous party scenes in the Animal House movie shot 39 years ago in Oregon. Joining The Kingsmen is Animal House cast-member Otis “Make Me Wanna Shout” Day, The Cry and other Oregon garage-bands. The assembly of cast, crew, and memorabilia and artifacts from the original Animal House is the brainchild of The Oregon Film Factory, whose documentary on the making of Animal House, Animal House of Blues 33 ⅓  Edition, releases internationally this year.

The celebration is in cooperation with The Governor’s Office of Film and Television, Oregon Media Production Association, Picture This, the Oregon Music Hall of Fame among other supportive businesses.  Animal House of Blues 33 ⅓  Edition is a first-hand account of the cultural impact of the Animal House movie, and the role of Oregon filmmakers and film crew who made it happen. The story links the likes of Ken Kesey, Curtis Salgado and John Belushi with the historic Animal House that once existed in Eugene, Oregon. Pieces of that original house have been re-assembled so that party-goers will experience first-hand what the house – and the party – were like.

“This is about informing the public of the blessing we have in Oregon of inspiring, successful, creative, talented people around the state, and it’s about mentoring a new generation of storytellers”, says Katherine Wilson, Animal House of Blues 33 ⅓ Edition producer and party planner. Katherine’s team are assembling pieces of the original Animal House, which will be on display in a re-creation of the Animal House set for attendees to get their Halloween groove on.

Joining The Kingsmen and Otis Day are Oregon-bred garage glam rockers The Cry (who appear in the Animal House of Blues 33 ⅓ Edition movie); plus an all-woman garage rock band The Mean Reds; and garage tribute outfit The Hauer Things, which features Luke Strahota. Strahota is the organizer of the legendary annual Portland garage rock tribute festival Nuggets Night, where The Kingsmen played to a sold-out audience in 2016.

“The musician lineup is amazing”, says Strahota. “It’s a dream come true to work with acts that I have admired since I was a kid. To get to work with The Kingsmen, and Otis Day, that’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. It’s an honor to play the Animal House celebration with them.”

Costumes are welcome and encouraged. Your go-to may be a toga sheet and laurel wreath (à la John Belushi’s movie breakout character Bluto Blutarski) – but don’t overlook classic costumes like the The Mummy, Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Angel and Devil — or pattern after Kevin Bacon’s very first movie appearance, as Animal House villain Chip Diller. Just like Otter put it: “They are all a bunch of Animals.”

The event’s host is radio personality Sheila Hamilton. Live entertainment and DJ until 11:00pm and tickets are expected to sell out in advance. Proceeds benefit the non-profit Oregon Film Museum, dedicated to celebrating the art and legacy of films and filmmaking in Oregon.

Listen to Sports 750/102.9 The Game and other stations in October for chances to win tickets on-air, or enter to win tickets in-store at Music Millennium.
