Earth Day Is Around The Corner and “A Billion Acts of Green®” Is Already Happening In Oregon

It’s April, it’s beginning to sprout green everywhere you look and there are many good and green projects out there that make evident Oregonians are doing their part for Earth Day and a  “A Billion Acts of Green®” this year.

The Ashland Independent Film Festival is screening a handful of Oregon made eco-films, the 48 Hour Go Green project has chosen two Oregon filmmakers to screen at Cannes and we have been working with the Producers Guild of America to help with a searchable green vendor data base to help green your next project.

This April 7-11th, the Ashland Independent Film Festival is showing a handful of green-themed films with an Oregon connection:

“If A Tree Falls-A story of the Earth Liberation Front” –  documentary about Oregon activist Daniel McGowan

“Hood To Coast” – documentary following runners in the race from Mount Hood to the Oregon Coast

“Saving Pelican 895” – documentary by Portland Oscar nominee

and “Letters From the Big Man” – feature about a US Forest service worker who gets sidetracked by Bigfoot.  The festival even has a carbon neutral souvenir program to add to their green efforts this year.

During the 48 Hour Go Green Film Project, teams from around the world competed to make eco-themed films, all shot and edited within 48 hours.  Not one, but two, Oregon teams were picked to be shown at Cannes this year in the Cannes Short Film Corner:

“To The Land Of The Setting Sun”  made by Monsieur Soeur (and won 5th place) and “Unwanted”, a western by “Dream a New Reality”, will also be shown at the festival.

The Film Office has recently been working with the Producers Guild of America by adding to an on-line  searchable database for green vendors throughout the state.   As Earth Day approaches on April 22nd, we ask that maybe one of your efforts for “A Billion Acts Green®” would be to suggest a green vendor, or two for this database. There is no charge for the listing of sustainable vendors and the more there are, the more opportunities productions have to make green choices………we can all do our part.

Happy Earth Day!
