Central Oregon Hosts Feature Film, "The Wait"

The Wait shooting at Black Butte Ranch - M Blash, Brian Mazzola, Greg Schmidt

The Wait, a drama, written and directed by Oregonian, M.Blash (Lying), and starring Chloe Sevigny (Lying, Big Love, Boys Don’t Cry) , Luke Grimes (Brothers & Sisters) and Jena Malone (Lying, Into The Wild, Pride and Prejudice) was shot entirely on location in Central Oregon, specifically Black Butte Ranch as well as Sisters.  Ryan Crisman, Neil Kopp and David Guy Levy produced.  The Wait was the second project to take advantage of the iOPIF program and according to Crisman, it was, “an integral part of us actually being able to make this film.  If this program was not available to us we most likely would not have been able to move forward into production”.  He added that, “filming on Black Butte Ranch and in the Sisters area was a great experience.  It is a beautiful part of the state and we can’t say enough about the community who opened their arms to us and made the difference in our success.”

The story revolves around two sisters (Sevigny and Malone) that receive a puzzling phone call from a psychic that catapults the family into a heightened state of waiting for their recently deceased mother to be resurrected.  While one sister believes the claim, the other staunchly opposes it, until she encounters a chance with love. Her voice of reason is thrown aside, giving her the hope that anything, even resurrection, is possible.

M. Blash, being from Oregon, is already familiar with what is on offer here but said that he, “remains inspired by the particular quality of light in Central Oregon. It was the light I grew up with in the summer and fall. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that kind of light anywhere else – it’s very intimate and mysterious”.

The Wait has wrapped and is now in post production with plans to be released in early 2011.
